H.E. Mr. Kwacha Chisiza, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Malawi to Japan, was welcomed by Professor HABAZAKI Hiroki (Dean, Faculty of Engineering), Professor TABE Yutaka (Director, International Exchange Office), Professor ITO Mayumi, Professor OTAKE Tsubasa, and Specially Appointed Assistant Professor CHIKANDA Frances on Tuesday, March 25, 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After a brief explanation by Assistant Professor Chikanda about the academic environment and life at Hokkaido University, Ambassador Chisiza expressed his appreciation for the support extended to Malawian students and emphasized the importance of educating young Malawians for the country\u2019s development. He stated that education is a key component in achieving the goals of Malawi 2063\u2014the country\u2019s long-term development blueprint launched in January 2021. He expressed hope that more Malawian students and researchers will be given the opportunity to study in Japan, especially at the HU Graduate School of Engineering, which has a strong focus on mining (a sector that plays a key role in Malawi\u2019s development). He also encouraged greater exchange by welcoming more Japanese students and researchers to Malawi for their research work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ambassador Chisiza highlighted that Malawi is known as the safest country in Africa and is referred to as the \u201cWarm Heart of Africa\u201d due to warm, friendly nature of its people.<\/p>\n

Following the meeting, he attended the commencement ceremony, where one Malawian student was awarded a Master\u2019s degree.<\/p>\n\n\n
