Graduation requirements

Master's Degree

Period of admission: 2 years 30 credits

To qualify for the degree of master, you must satisfactorily earn a minimum of 30 credits from coursework and pass a thesis defense.

Divisions except for Cooperative Program for Resources Engineering

[Primary field of study subjects]

  • At least 16 credits from courses offered by your division
  • 10 credits from advanced exercise (research guidance by supervisors) offered by your division

[Secondary field of study subjects]

  • At least 4 credits from major subjects offered by one of the divisions of the Graduate School of Engineering other than your own or from subjects offered by one of the programs approved by the Graduate School of Engineering.

Division of Cooperative Program for Resources Engineering

  • 6 credits in common compulsory subjects
  • At least 12 credits in specialized elective compulsory subjects and 2 credits of Advanced Exercise in Cooperative Program for Resources Engineering
  • At least 10 credits in Graduate School Exchange Seminar elective compulsory subjects

 

Doctoral Degree

Period of admission: 3 years 10 credits

To qualify for the degree of doctor, you must have satisfactorily earned a minimum of 10 credits from the coursework and passed the dissertation defense.

Those who enrolled in or before AY2023

  • 2 credits come from Advanced Study (research guidance in your division)
  • At least 8 credits from the graduate-level course subjects

Those who enrolled in or after AY2024

  • 6 credits come from Advanced Study (research guidance in your division)
  • At least 4 credits from the graduate-level course subjects
 Important notes
  1. All publications and courses that can be counted toward graduation requirements of e3 program must be in English.
  2. Please check the Student Manual of your year of enrolment for the detailed explanation of the course completion requirements, research guidance practices, and specific graduation requirements at your division.
  3. All e3 doctoral students are subject to a progress evaluation at the end of the 1st and 2nd year of their program.
  4. If you completed a Master's course at HU, you cannot take the same courses which you already took during your Master's course. However, you can take the same course which you earned your credits during your Master's course as long as the subtitle of the course is different.
